A little about myself
|
Hello, my name is Josh. I also go by Barnsey. My pronouns are he/him.
I’m originally from the Pacific Northwest, where I fostered a love for making art from a young age. I moved to Pittsburgh, PA in my early twenties, where I began a formal tattoo apprenticeship in 2013 at Artisan Tattoo. I was very fortunate to work alongside and learn from some amazingly talented artists such as Jason Angst and Nathan Mould. In my early years as a tattooer, I was equally exposed to ornamental as well as illustrative-based tattooing techniques from my mentor and colleagues, which to this day influences my work as a fusion of the two styles.
After working in Pittsburgh for a handful of years, and a brief stint tattooing in Philadelphia as well, I moved with my partner and our dog to the beautiful state of Vermont, where I opened my own private studio Alpenglow in downtown Burlington in the summer of 2018. After 4 years at the Alpenglow studio, I moved to the Chace Mill and opened Hermit's Hollow, my second tattoo studio.
I find most of my inspiration as an artist comes from spending time in nature, observing the harmony of the wildlife, plants, and fungal varieties of the environments around me. I enjoy studying and analyzing the patterns of natural elements and flora, over time finding my own artistic interpretation of these structures in ornamental tattoo work. I like to combine these organic aspects with tribal-inspired patterns and designs in order to create my own unique variety of nature-armor, custom tailored for those who are drawn to the aesthetic.
I encourage all who feel an affinity with the natural world and self-expression through body art to reach out to me. I enjoy nothing more than helping others find comfort in their own skin through self decoration and empowerment.
Hermit's Hollow is a safe space for all who enter- I do not tolerate any form of discrimination.
